Liguus fasciatus testudineuss variety fuscoflamellus
Frampton, 1932
This shell is a rare natural hybrid discovered in the early 1900's. It was suspected
to be a cross of Liguus fasciatus testudineus form marmoratus Pilsbry,1912
with Liguus fasciatus castaneozonatus form alternatus Simpson, 1920.
Both forms are endemic to Timm's Hammock and Cox's Hammock on the
Atlantic Coastal Ridge. The hybrid was recreated by A. Jones and I. Winte.
Two forms, one with a white and one with a pink protoconch, have been
established as true breeding colonies in the Everglades National Park.

These shells are a result of the breeding experiments in the recreation of the
form fuscoflamellus. There are dark and light races, both breed true and are
established in breeding colonies in the Everglades National Park. They
are also found in many of the mixed colonies in the Pinecrest area as a
result of random intentional introductions.
